Les terres dels Ports han estat habitades des de temps prehistòrics per éssers humans que van construir les seves poblacions, els seus monuments, les seves vies de comunicació i els seus llocs d’enterrament en els quals jeure al final dels seus dies. Amb el pas dels anys, el seu llegat s’ha anat descobrint en els interessants jaciments arqueològics que poblen la nostra comarca.
A més a més, Els Ports compta amb importantíssimes pintures rupestres d’estil llevantí, declarades Patrimoni de la Humanitat per la UNESCO, una manifestació artística de fa milers d’anys feta per les persones que van habitar ací. Aquestes, van usar les roques de les nostres muntanyes per plasmar la seva sensibilitat artística, un llegat que ha perdurat fins als nostres dies.

LA TINENÇA DE BENIFASSÀ
Ancient cave paintings located in a rock shelter. Its placement is due to the proximity of the river, where ancient inhabitants cultivated the land and raised animals.

Natural shelter located next to the Ulldecona Reservoir. To access, request guided tours at the Tourist Office 977729036 or the Town Hall 977729051. Paintings accessible for the visually impaired.

They consist of more than 30 figures, comprising various groups of hunters and wild animals. The paintings are distributed between the shelters called A and B, two very close caves.

The lands of Els Ports have been inhabited since prehistoric times by humans who built their settlements, monuments, communication routes, and burial places where they would rest at the end of their days. Over the years, their legacy has been uncovered in the intriguing archaeological sites that populate our region.
LA MOLETA DELS FRARES
FORCALL
Discovered in 1876, the city of Lesera was established on this site, the only urban center from Roman times in the Castellón region. Therefore, it has been considered the most important archaeological site in the province.
Some of its remains are housed in the Museographic Collection of Forcall.

SANT JOAQUIM DE LA MENADELLA

Sant Joaquim is a cremation necropolis used during the Iron Age. In this archaeological site, four different types of burials can be observed: funeral chambers, cists, tumuli, and loculi.

EL BALLESTAR
Archaeological site of the ancient Iberian settlement of La Morranda. It is located at a considerable elevation (2 kilometers from El Ballestar), providing highly favorable defensive conditions. Some ceramic remains found at the site are on display in the municipal facilities of the town.
